As French is the teaching language of our trainings, we request at least a B2 level in French.

We receive up to 40 Erasmus+ students from our partners' universities each year, mainly enrolled in medical studies, but also in Master programmes.

MEDICAL STUDIES

How do medical studies work in your university?

In France, it takes 9 to 14 years of studies to be allowed to practice medicine.

Since 2020, the PASS or LAS programmes are the main tracks to enroll either in the medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, midwifery or physiotherapy schools. Students usally come to PASS/LAS directly after high school. There is neither minimum grades in high school / at the end of high school diploma, nor test prior to admission in PASS/LAS, but the competitive exam taken during the PASS/LAS will define who is allowed to continue in 2nd year.

The first cycle in three years (including PASS/LAS) leads to the Diplôme de Formation Générale en Sciences Médicales (DFGSM) and the second cycle in three years to the Diplôme de Formation Approfondie en Sciences Médicales (DFASM).

During the second cycle (from the fourth to the sixth year), students spend part of their time in hospital services and at a general practicioner's (six week full-time rotations).

At the beginning of the sixth year, students take a "national ranking online examination" (Epreuves Dématérialisées Nationales - EDN) that will count, along with their academic results and their portfolio, to access the third cycle. Students then choose a specialty and a geographic area for their third cycle.

The third cycle of medical studies lasts three to six years depending on the specialty and leads to a Diplôme d'Etudes Spécialisées (DES) and a Diplôme d'Etat de Docteur en médecine (State diploma allowing to practice medicine). Note that general practice is a specialty (three years).
