As French is the teaching langage of our trainings, we request at least a B2 level in French.

We receive each year 35 to 40 Erasmus students from our partners universities in 10 European countries (Germany, United Kingdom, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Romania, etc.), mainly in medical studies, but also in Master programs.

How do medical studies work in your university?

In France, it takes at least 9 years of studies to be allowed to practice medicine.

There is a "first year common to health studies" (Première Année Commune aux Etudes de Santé: PACES) with competitive exams leading to medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, midwifery and physical therapy. Students usally come to PACES directly after high school. There is neither minimum grades in high school / at the end of high school diploma, nor test prior to admission in PACES, but the competitive exam during this 1rst year will define who is allowed to continue in 2nd year.

The 1rst cycle in 3 years (including PACES) leads to the Diplôme de Formation Générale en Sciences Médicales (DFGSM) and the 2nd cycle in 3 years to the Diplôme de Formation Approfondie en Sciences Médicales (DFASM).

During the 2nd cycle (from the 4th to the 6th years), students spend their morning in a hospital service (or at a general practicioner's) and have lectures or tutorials in the afternoon. The traineeship place changes every 3 months.

At the end of the 6th year, students take a "national ranking examination" (Epreuves Classantes Nationales: ECN) to access the 3rd cycle. Students then choose, in the order of their ranking, a specialty and a geographic area for their 3rd cycle which lasts 3 to 6 years depending on the specialty and leads to a Diplôme d'Etudes Spécialisées (DES) and a Diplôme d'Etat de docteur en médecine (State diploma allowing to practice medicine). Note that general practice is a specialty (3 years).
